Pendulums are a simplified divination tool used to ask the Universe, or your Spirit Guides, a question and receive an answer. It is also a healing tool hung over the body's chakra points to determine a person's health. What's great about pendulums is that they are easy to use, so they are great for beginners. Pendulums are also easy to carry around because they are the size of a necklace.
Often the pendulum will be made out of a crystal, metal or wood that is tied to a string or chain. The piece will have a point facing downward. The easiest questions to ask when using a pendulum are yes and no questions. You hold the pendulum by the string and according to which direction the pendulum swings, gives you the yes, no or maybe answer. Determining the directions of the pendulum swing is personal to the user. However, it is common for the pendulum to swing clockwise for yes and counter clockwise for no. Or up and down for yes and side to side for no, similar to your head shaking yes or no.
If you want a more detailed answer, then it might be helpful to use a pendulum board or mat. This is a flat board with the words yes/no written on them. Where the pendulum hovers over the board will tell you the answer to your question. What's great about boards is that you can use any words. You can add letters like a ouija board to spell a word, add the chakras, the four directions, the four elements, whatever you need in order to get a clear answer.
If this feels a little "out there" for you then here is a basic scientific explanation. The human body is constantly moving. Even if we are trying to hold perfectly still, are blood is always flowing, our neurons are firing, air is entering/exiting the lungs, our digestive track is working. You get the idea. Unless you have moved on from this Earth, your body is in constant motion. With me so far?
Now visualize the movement of muscles in your hand. Surprising to know, but your muscles are constantly moving. You can test this by putting a paper clip on the end of a pencil. Hold the pencil up in the air and try to keep the paper clip still. It's near impossible. The microscopic muscle movements will have that paper clip spinning, similar to how a pendulum spins when you hold it by the string.
There are two reasons why the pendulum spins in a specific direction for a yes/no answer. The first, is that subconsciously you may already know the answer to the question. Your body has primitive instinct and it reacts to our subconscious. If you ask a question and your subconscious has the answer, or you have emotions about the topic, then the bodies microscopic movements will spin the pendulum in the direction that it needs to go.
The second reason that the pendulum spins in a certain direction is Spirit. If you feel comfortable with this method, allow your Spirit Guides to temporarily influence your hand. The Spirit can move your hand in the direction it needs to swing the pendulum. I highly recommend that you use this method only if you have a beautiful solid relationship with your Guides. You don't want any troublemakers influencing your answers. Keep in mind that Beings from the Otherworld need permission to influence you. Free will is a huge aspect of life on Earth and being safe means feeling solid in your conviction, beliefs and in your personal Guides. Be aware of your subconscious fears and the level of trust you have in your Guides.
